There’s something special about using encaustic and fibre to communicate. It connects you to the process of change and transformation in a way that gives you more respect and curiosity for the materials used and the process itself.

self portrait

Jean Bennett works in fibre, jesmonite and encaustic wax. Art has been a constant in her life there has not been a time when art has not been present. During the years Jeans work has changed to become inclusive of the figure. The way we go through various transitions and experiences in our lives and how identities shift during these processes is encompassed in the artwork. The materials used are important adding additional layers of meaning to the work creating personal connections not just for the artist but for the viewer also. Stitching, sculpture, fibre art and encaustic provide a sense of accomplishment and integrity, thus proving a most amenable vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality. About the artist

“The quality of working with fibre and stitch is ephemeral at times. There are many sources of inspiration in the environment surrounding us. You can tell how unique and embodied each work of art is and that makes every piece of artwork even more special.”
